The Diaper Dandy: Kobey O'Rourke '16
By Cully Pourier '13
Chants of “freshman, freshman” began to fill the Paul
Dizzy Trout Memorial Field House as 9th grader Kobey O’Rourke made a nice move
to slither through defense and put two points on the board for Red Cloud.
O’Rourke, who stands at six feet and one inch tall, is a freshman starting forward for the Red Cloud Crusaders. He is the first freshman to start for the team in the past nine years. O’Rourke graduated 8th grade from Red Cloud and dominated the middle school season, leading his team to a third place award at the Big-Foot Conference tournament. Kobey also won an all tournament award. His mother's name is Oma Perez and his father is Samuel O’Rourke Sr.
Kobey is grateful for his opportunities. “It’s something that not a lot of
kids get to experience so it makes this opportunity even more special. Being a freshman, you have to work extra hard to earn a spot on
this team," he stated. Kobey has earned a reputation as an excellent rebounder. On his role on the team, Kobey stated, “Getting rebounds, playing defense, and scoring when I have the
opportunity to do so.” Kobey has big dreams and goals and has earned excellent grades in the classroom so far. “I would like to get the Gates Millennium Scholarship and go
to a prestigious college and play basketball," he said.
