Come Get Your Apples and Pears!
By Rhiannon White Eyes ‘14
Last May a group of people from the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation volunteered to come to Red Cloud High School. These volunteers travel around the world planting fruit trees. They brought several bunches of trees with them. According to the volunteers, we have the richest soil and also the best environment for apple and pear trees. The students in all of Red Cloud's science classes and also the teachers participated in planting the fruit trees.
Before they began, the students were given a brief introduction on how to properly plant the fruit trees. Each student broke up into a different group. The volunteers walked around and made sure each group had the right idea of how to plant the trees.
Eighteen trees were planted altogether. They’re a variety of apple and pear trees. So far the trees have been planted for three months, and they have already sprouted! They are looking very healthy and green. Hopefully by the end of this year we will have fruit growing.
