Teacher Profile: ASHLEY BOONE
BY ODESSA STAR COMES OUT '14
Ashley Boone, the 11th grade English teacher, is from New York. She started to teach at Red Cloud High School in the fall of 2012. She discovered that the mission of Red Cloud was her cup tea, as she was once a Jesuit-educated student herself. Also, she didn’t think where she was in West Virginia worked too well and wanted to look for a new experience.
Ashley teaches students to become the best writers and readers that they can be! She is someone who is determined to encourage students to find their own personal creativity. But surprisingly, she didn’t always want to become a teacher. When she was young, she wanted to become a dolphin trainer and later wanted to become an anesthesiologist. She studied biology in college. However, once she heard that she had the opportunity to become a teacher at Red Cloud School, it seemed suited to her interests.
I always wanted to know what it was like to be a teacher. “I see it as being a full time event planner,” Ashley stated. She wants to create an environment that is a fun place to learn. For Ashley, teaching is a lot of work but it’s great. Not only is it a great experience for her but a place where she can get inspiration. Her students inspire her to live in the moment, have fun, and ask questions about life.
This summer Ashley did a lot of traveling. She went to weddings in West Virginia and Oregon. She visited family in Pennsylvania, Maine, and New York. She also went to graduate school for about a week in Vermont. Sounds like a great summer. Better than mine!
