Every year RCHS enrolls numerous new students and among them, one to two students come from outside of the U.S.

This year we have two students. Jinyeup Jung, also known as John, from Korea, and Yoshiki, also known as Yoshi, from Japan. Jin is a returning student, and takes part of our wrestling team here at RCHS. Jin recently arrived in the States, and he joins our senior class.

Yoshi is a newly enrolled student and a junior here at RCHS. When given the opportunity, I spoke with Yoshi about how he is liking it here at RCHS. “I am very glad to be here because it is not a thing everyone gets to experience back home,” he stated. “The students are very kind and always say ‘Hi’ as we pass each other during the time we switch classes, or in the halls.” After hearing him speak about how different our schools are, I am glad to be a student here. “Our school back at home is very strict and has uniforms,” Yoshi explained.

Our student body and staff are very welcoming and helpful to the exchange students. With our exchange students knowing little English and having difficulties understanding our language, we encourage them and give as much help as we can provide. It’s not every day that we get the opportunity to meet and befriend other individuals from outside of our country, let alone go to school with them. This is a great opportunity for both our foreign students and students from around the reservation to keep an open mind about learning about new cultures, traditions, countries, and people. We welcome our new students to RCHS and wish to make this a great experience for everyone.
