New Year, Same School
By Kirkland Ross ‘14
It is now 2014 and the start of a new semester.
On January 6, the students of Red Cloud and Our Lady of Lourdes returned back for class, now halfway done with the year. The students were excited to see all of their friends that they did not see during break, but they were also dreading the routine of waking up early and doing classwork again. Winter break had been the time for catching up on sleep that the students need and getting to relax a little since the first semester ended last year. Everyone may have had fun during break: not caring about homework, staying up all night, and sleeping all day. Now these students have to adjust to the strict school schedule.
Some students have a hard time adjusting back to a school schedule. “The adjustment was and is horrible, because I got used to sleeping in,” stated freshman Braedon Rodriguez.
Not just underclassmen have problems adjusting- seniors do as well. “Adjustment is due to getting back on the daily routine,” says senior Ryan Hussman.
Other students have no problem with the adjustment. “Adjusting was fine,” said senior Brannon Cousin, “I feel refreshed coming back from winter break.”
With the new semester means new expectations and goals. “I'm looking forward to more time with friends but I am going to stay on top of my grades first,” Rodriguez added.
Seniors have an exciting four and a half months ahead of them. They look forward to prom, college responses, and graduation. “Hopefully I get the Gates Millenium Scholarship and get into Notre Dame,” said Hussman.
With the positive things to forward to for the seniors, there are also things they hope do not come. “I dread graduating and leaving a lot people,” stated Cousin.
This semester is the time for everyone to give it their all. It will challenge students to stay on task, and tempt them to abandon their studies to play video games, hang out with friends, and laze around.
