For the first time in Red Cloud history, high school students will be taking a college visit to University of Kansas, Haskell University, and Rockhurst University. Twenty-three students have signed up for the trip. Nakina Mills and Carla Jasso are the mentors and coordinators of this college trip. They will be leaving on Valentine’s Day and will be returning on the 17th. It is approximately 10-12 hours to Kansas City, which will be their first stop. Rockhurst University is in Kansas City, which is an exciting city filled with many activities the students could do in their free time. Their next and final stop will be Lawrence. Many Red Cloud seniors have been accepted to University of Kansas, so this is a great opportunity to give admitted students a first glance at the campus. Haskell University is also located in the same town, and it’s a university primarily for Native Americans.
Both colleges in Lawrence have arranged a busy day for the students. They will be taking a tour and learning about KU from 10-12 on the 16th, and Haskell University will be occupying the rest of the day. No news yet from Rockhurt University. This is a very exciting trip, especially for the admitted students. Hopefully, this will expand options for Red Cloud juniors as well.
