The Battle To Be #1
By Sierra Concha '13
January
Tobacco and Amanda Standing Bear are two incredibly intelligent students
fighting for the valedictorian spot at the end of this school year. January has
a very gentle spirit, while Amanda has a strong personality that intimidates
many. They're complete opposites, but still manage to be very close friends. Ever
since freshman year, they have been fighting for the top of the pyramid. In 9th
grade they both ran for the class representative and the results made them
co-representatives. Their GPAs are close, and in this last semester they must
push themselves to their full potential. I asked a few questions to gain better
insight on their thoughts about their one on one battle.
Q: How did
you manage to stay motivated throughout high school?
January: The pursuit of happiness.
Amanda: Optimus Prime because he’s Optimus Prime, and you cannot
fail him. It just isn’t right to fail the beautiful Autobot leader. I also
succeeded in high school because Stormy Williams and Josh Duhamel are my
parents.
Q: How does it feel to be
neck-in-neck with a close friend for the valedictorian spot?
January: It’s a friendly competition. If it was anyone else it
would be a different story.
Amanda: It provides a challenge because of the ongoing competition.
January is my second most interesting adversary.
Q: What advice do you have for
underclassmen?
January: It’s better to fail at being yourself than to succeed in
being someone else.
Amanda: Don’t procrastinate, seriously. It does harm. Lots of harm.
Like Decepticons.
They are two good friends of mine
and I can’t wait to see who rises to the top!
