Amanda Standing Bear Receives QuestBridge Scholarship to Dartmouth
By Sierra Concha '13

There have been only two Questbridge Scholarship recipients in the history of Red Cloud High School. Amanda Standing Bear ‘13 is one of them.

The QuestBridge program is designed to pay full tuition to an elite college for the top students in the country. Students must write three essays about their community, culture and a personal statement. There were two rounds and the finalists had to apply to colleges that correspond with QuestBridge. Recently, Standing Bear filled out a survey for QuestBridge stating she would be attending Dartmouth College this fall. This Ivy league school is involved with the Questbridge program, so shortly after she received a letter announcing that she would be receiving a generous scholarship from QuestBridge. Last year, Tiarra Little '12 received the QuestBridge Scholarship to attend Stanford University.

“I feel relieved to get such a prestigious scholarship,” sad Standing Bear. She plans on studying East Asian Studies and taking advantage of the study abroad program: “I want to go to Japan, Korea and maybe China.”

Standing Bear has worked hard throughout her high school career and is very deserving of this honor. The QuestBridge scholarship is one of the most difficult scholarships to get.
