Track Trip to Kadoka
By Sierra Concha '13
After
many cancelled track meets, the track team finally made their way to
Kadoka yesterday morning for a meet. It was windy and cloudy throughout
most of the day, and the meet was filled with schools from all over the
state, including class B and AA schools. There was a wide variety of
talent that arrived to race. Red Cloud students once again proved
their skill by placing in multiple events.
The
underclassmen have especially earned a good reputation due to their
success in Kadoka. Dylan Tobacco ‘16 placed 3rd in the 1 mile race,
Randy Hughes ‘15 placed 2nd in the 400 meter dash and 5th in the 200,
Myriam Rama ‘15 placed 5th in the long jump and 6th in the 200, Augusta
Terkildsen ‘15 placed 2nd in both the long jump and triple jump, and Jaime
Richards ‘15 placed 4th in the long jump. A few upperclassmen
placed in difficult events as well. Daniel Lucero ‘14 placed 2nd in
both the 1 mile and 2 mile and Falcon Albers ‘13 placed 6th in the long
jump.
Head
Coach Nakina Mills was pleased with the results of Kadoka’s track meet
despite the short season this year. “I think we’re doing great even
with limited practices and the weather influencing our season,” she
said. With only a few track meets left, the runners are training hard
for the last chances to qualify for state. With hardly any time to
train, Red Cloud students are determined to not let their season end at
Regionals.
