Archery Club: Trained Warriors

The warriors are coming.

One of Red Cloud's most popular clubs is Archery Club, which is led by faculty members Shannon McConnaughey and Russ Cournoyer. Shannon is a woman warrior who is forming her own army. “It’s going really well," said Shannon. "The kids have had some success. More importantly, they’ve had a lot of fun and they're showing a lot of consistency and dedication.”

I interviewed Shannon and this is what she had to say.

Q: What do you do in Archery?
Shannon: We practice, practice, practice a LOT. We are aiming to get better.
Q: What is your main goal?
Shannon: Having fun, and being more accurate and hitting the target.
Q: How do you think the club is going?
Shannon: Extremely well. The kids are having fun.
Q: Do you have any leaders/captains?
Shannon: There are no leaders or captains, but there are some people who the underclassmen look up to like Joey Gomez, a senior and Hoksila, a sophomore.
Q: How many people are in the club?
Shannon: 12-15 people.

I also interviewed Patrick Clarke, a 12th grade student in the club.

Q: How is Archery Club going for you?
Patrick: I am currently overworked in my classes so I have not been attending as much. I appreciate the time the club leaders take out of their day for us.
Q: Do you like Archery Club?
Patrick: Yes, I am very fond of the time that I have been able to attend.
Q: What is your main goal?
Patrick: The target.
Q. What has Archery Club taught you?
Patrick: Discipline to better myself.
