Roger White Eyes is the new Lakota Language 1 teacher here at Red Cloud High School.

Roger has been teaching Native American studies for 17 years, and he figured it was time to start teaching the language. “I’ve been studying for two years learning new techniques to teach these kids the language,” said Roger.

“My challenges as the new Lakota language teacher are the large number of students in classes,” stated Roger. He came from having small classes of perhaps 5-8 students to at least 20 students in one classroom now. Roger is excited about playing games with the new freshmen students and helping them to understand and remember the language better.

"Because they are young, I can play games with them. When I was teaching juniors and seniors, they didn’t want to play games so I’m pretty excited,” said Roger.
